WHY SIT HERE UNTIL WE DIE: Lessons From the Bible for Today

Moonrise Over the City – (c)2011, JSB*Art. All Rights Reserved.

There’s a profound Scripture to read in the 7th chapter of 2nd Kings that tells a story about four lepers who’d been put out of the city. Living on the periphery of society, they were starving to death, while on the other side, the entire region was about to be attacked by a mighty army. While contemplating their options, they concluded – WHY SIT HERE UNTIL WE DIE? If we make a move and go back into the city, they’ll kill us for being evicted lepers. If we run to the enemy’s camp, they’ll probably feed us before they kill us. So, our chances are better with the enemy than with our tribes.

Turned out to be the best choice, because God went before them and caused their enemy to scatter and leave the food, money and all equipment there for the taking. They even had the decency to return to their city and let them know that they were now safe, the opposing army had fled.

That’s a hell of a choice. But, it takes boldness and FED-UPNESS to do so. Have you ever been there? Guess what – we’re here NOW.

The manufactured ‘debt crisis’ being played incessantly on every media outlet, is causing some to ask this question. Why are we sitting here while the politicians are making a mockery of the original purpose of this country [minus the slavery]? Why are we sitting here while they are insulting our intelligence with every lie, every spin of the truth, and every nonsensical rant on the floor of the House or Senate without a solution? Why are we sitting here while such blatant disrespect for a President has never been seen before, because he’s an African-American, and no one is stating this obvious fact?

Remember that the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just. That transfer of wealth is imminent, because the country is on its knees, and it’s in that position of its own doing. Also remember that throughout the history of the U.S., nothing is transferred to the ethnic communities until it’s no longer viable. If you live in a city like Chicago, you know that neighborhoods change when they’re no longer viable and then left to ‘the other folk’ to do as they will, with banks and businesses making a beeline to get out, leaving financial wastelands.

So, why don’t the people there create their own wealth? That’s another topic unto itself, for another day. Read the whole chapter; it’s totally applicable.

2 Kings 7:1- Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.”
