Immediate Means Now.
Sometimes, we have to find outlets to let off steam. This is an important matter, but needs to be prefaced with Scripture to make sense. “Jesus told his disciples, “Situations that cause people to lose their faith are certain to arise. But how horrible it will be for the person who causes someone to lose his faith!” – God’s Word Translation Bible. That’s Luke 17:1. Although Jesus was speaking about children in that text, it applies to a variety of situations, like this one.
Waiting for biopsy results is not pretty. Period. So when you get them, you deal with it. That being said, in those last few hours before the call comes, you think about what you need to finish, any pending matters to address. That’s because [a] you don’t know what you’re about to get and [b] you don’t know if you’ll be able to think straight after you do.
So, I started sending faxes and e-mails out for various matters that I needed to wrap up before week’s end. This was on Thursday. Included was one to my primary doctor, Dr. Vance Lauderdale III @Rush Internists, and his crew. Yes, I name names, there’s a reason for it. Told them I needed a letter to take care of a matter. By the time they saw it, they had the biopsy results via their system from the other department. Makes sense, right?
But this guy; when I talked to him Friday morning to discuss the next step, I asked if he’d received my fax. Do you know what he had the unmitigated gall to say to me? He listed my conditions, and I said yes, and the biopsy result. He said yes, and none will be affected if I don’t send the letter you asked for. He didn’t say it in that manner, but much more callously. I said what about the stress that’s caused by the situation? It won’t cost you or your secretary anything to write it. He still said he can’t do it and tried to change the subject. He eventually hung up because he wouldn’t address the matter at hand again. In other words, he punked out.
Or was it because of who’s paying you for my service? Lauderdale, you don’t really think you know me, do you? Or can judge what the outcome will be for your refusal on Friday morning? You can’t be that big a fool, full of yourself to the point where you’re about to blow up. Sorry, that’s a bit extreme, but I’m pissed. These are a saved person’s substitute for expletives. Pray for me…
At your age, Dr. L., you went to school back when U of C was a trauma center – Bernard Mitchell on Maryland, Chicago Osteopathic on 53rd & Ellis that was turned into condos. You saw everyone in the city – Woodlawn and Englewood folk as well as Hyde Park-Kenwood mansion dwellers. Your elitism and disregard for humanity was beyond anything I’ve seen before, and I’ve seen some of the best – Streeterville, the Gold Coast, Lincoln Park or Rush St. – they have nothing on Dr. Lauderdale. Even the doctors at St. Joe on Diversey Pkwy. & The Inner Drive aren’t as elitist as you. It’s only a letter, it won’t cost you anything.
This is my last word on Jesus’ opinion on folk who think they’re wonderful and everyone else is dung:
“And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many good things laid up, [enough] for many years. Take your ease; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself merrily. But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night they [the messengers of God] will demand your soul of you; and all the things that you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with the one who continues to lay up and hoard possessions for himself and is not rich [in his relation] to God [this is how he fares].” Luke 12:19-21, Amplified Bible.
